Welcome back here is this month’s lesson with Elizabeth

In this lesson we paint a variety of roses. I painted mine on a 12 x 16 Centurian universal primed linen. This universal primed linen is an acrylic priming so the paint sucks in a bit more than in an oil ground linen. I did add Quinacridone Red and Quinacridone Violet to my palette.

My painting at the end of filming

wonderful demo of garden roses.
Thank you Bruce
This is stunning!!
Thank you so much
What a great lesson and a wonderful painting. Even though I have watched all of the lessons (right from the beginning) I still heard or reheard many nuggets I had forgotten. Thanks again for all you give.
So glad you found it helpful. I agree, it’s impossible to learn everything by just watching or hearing once. It helps to hear it and watch it multiple times
Magnifiquement intéressant, mais je n’ai pas trouvé la traduction en français! Comment dois-je faire pour arriver à comprendre la vidéo ?
Richard I’m happy you enjoyed the video. I do not have french translations at this time. You could use the Closed captioning and read it in english if that helps. I’ll work on translations for future vidoes
Richard, I’m working on getting this video translated to french. I’ll let you know when it’s ready.
Richard, I have now translated this video with french subtitles. Click on the little gear in the lower right corner and choose closed captioning. Turn on Closed Captioning and then choose French. Also, I sent you an email but it came back undeliverable. Please verify your email address for me.
Absolutely gorgeous, thank you for so much giving. Praying for a great and blessed year for you and family.
Thank you so much.
A wonderful rendition Elizabeth, absolutely loved every stroke! Such a beautiful painting. U also watched a previous one in which you painted Amaryllis flowers, which was excellent! Once I sent Amaryllis flowers to my sister because her dog was sick. She fell in love with them! Maybe I’ll try a painting for Ger upcoming birthday. Loving the programme.
Thanks for sharing that story. Amaryllis are beautiful. Believe it or not, I have one that is just now blooming.
Sorry for errors previously, the keys are too small for my fingers, which I think are not as slim as they once were 😉
Today I ordered David Austin Heritage and a Munstead Wood bare root rose bush. It looks like it may take awhile to get roses to bloom. Last year I planted Tranquillity and hoping to see some blooms this year. Your arrangements are beautifully done along with a green thumb in the garden. Beautiful painting!
Thank you so much!
You should get blooms the first year but by the second year you’ll be amazed. Make sure you use good soil
Thanks for the info. So excited to see these beauties bloom so I can paint them.
Wow what a great lesson! Thank you Elizabeth.
You are welcome. Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you for a great lesson. It’s nice to study a value, tone and colour!
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you so much for generously sharing your expertise, beautiful painting. I certainly feel inspired to have a go at roses!
So glad to hear it
Love this painting! I love the way you have cropped this. Those pale lilac roses are beautiful.
I’m always impressed with how quickly you get it looking like a finished painting!
Thank you Margie. So glad you enjoyed it
Thanks Liz. This is such a beautiful inspiration especially on a cold winter’s day. Happy New Year- all the best in 2026.
Happy New year to you and glad you enjoyed the video
There’s so much key info in this demonstration video which I’ve watched 3 times now! I have no doubt your videos have helped me become a better painter. I appreciate the work you put into your remarkable paintings, the clarity of your teaching and the production of your excellent videos. Thank you, Elizabeth – kudos!
Thank you so much Laurie. I really appreciate the positive feedback
By the way, one little nugget that I picked up on this one was how soft those greens are on the underside of some of those leaves. I always tend to go too dark, too chromatic with too much yellow. Valuable lesson in variety and subtlety!
I love that you noticed that
I absolutely love the brass vase with grapes that is sitting on the easel, is there a lesson for that painting? I will get back to the roses later! Thank you Elizebeth ! I fell like a kid in a candy store.
Do you mean the one that is behind me? it’s actually a copper pitcher with green crab apples. I don’t have a lesson on that one but that’s certainly a good idea to have one
