In this month’s lesson we learn how to paint dahlias, delphiniums, a beautiful white vase and drapery. I painted mine on a 20 x 20 oil primed linen and did add Permanent Rose and Cobalt Violet and Quinacridone Magenta to my palette for these color dahlias. This particular painting was not done alla prima. It took me 3 days to paint it. I took about a two week break between day 2 and day 3 which I’m glad I did because I could easily see now what I needed to change after day 2.
I admit that this painting was a struggle but I’m happy with the final result. I did add the little blue ribbon after filming. It could easily have been pink but I think the blue helps bring the blue from the delphiniums in the lower half of the painting. I hope it leaves you inspired to paint
